I find the concept of this website really interesting and lovely---trying (and succeeding, in my opinion) to give tangible comfort over the internet. I think it's quite important because it is using code and technology to create real human emotion, which although is seen on social media when we interact with our friends, this is with strangers and is accessible to everyone with internet access, including people who may suffer from social anxiety or find it difficult to be comforting with people irl. Super super nice.

What a crazy concept! I have a bi-polarity of emotion towards it.
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, I feel this is a beautiful means of being able to express comforting compassionate messages of love electronically; to endow those who need the love and care when no one is physically there. Its a kind concept which will likely bring happiness to many.
However, the emulation and augmentation of real-love feels false when through the proxy of a computer screen. The intent is to be loving and kind, but does this mean it equals real-life affection? Will its existence be seen through, leading to the human mind being discomforted at the fact it isn't direct personal contact and love from one human to another in the physical form, live at the very moment it happens?
The extent to technology's impact on our lives has led to a replication of genuine human interaction, leading to a number of comfort and discomfort. Just as many things in life, the extent to the usefulness and comfort it will bring depends on what the motive is, how frequently it is used and how. Moderation is key for its positivity to to flourish, in my opinion.
